Hi Terry, I believe in accountability and fairness, like you. I don't excuse the behavior of violent protesters and I think they should be held accountable, just as officers need to be held to high standards. I also think this moment is about something much bigger, which is expanding opportunity for historically marginalized groups. Policing gets all the focus, and I think it can be improved (as I've tried to outline here), but police are largely encountering symptoms and are not able to get at root causes of poverty, poor education, lack of economic opportunity, etc. That's where the bulk of the change needs to happen. I think it's about more than just accountability--I'm also interested in how we expand opportunity.
